But it doesnt seem to ring true for 62% of U.S. workers, who would consider moving to a different location for a job.Though almost two-thirds of Americans may already seem like a hefty chunk of the population, those numbers skyrocket for younger adults 76% of workers aged 18-34 would relocate, compared to only 40% of those older than 55. Theres also a gender discrepancy - 67% of men say theyd move, compared to 59% of women.These numbers come from a survey out of specialized staffing firm Robert Half and was conducted by independent research firms that surveyed more than 2,800 U.S. workers who report to sekretariat environments and more than 2,800 senior managers in 28 major U.S. cities.So why are so many people ready to pack their bags and leave?Well, according to the research, 44% of people list better pay or perks as the top factor in whether they move for a job. 17% make their decisions based on family or personal reasons, while 16% count cost of living or career advancement as their major influencers. For a further 6%, weather weighs heavy on their choice.Regions also seem to play a big role in terms of whos willing to relocate. There are some cities that are hard to leave, and others where thats well less true. Workers in Raleigh, Miami, Des Moines, Charlotte, Los Angeles an, Seattle are the most willing to consider relocating for a job. Meanwhile, people in Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Boston, Detroit, and Atlanta want to stay put (As someone who has lived in Philly, I can tell you why - its all about the food).As employers search for qualified candidates beyond their geographic area, theyre also adapting to provide the best applicants with relocation packages. 34% of companies have increased such benefits in the last five years. But that doesnt mean everyones bent on recrui ting outside talent - 30% of companies still dont offer any sort of relocation package.Would you move for a new job? LinkedIn tells us what the top skills are, indicates the ones you already have in your profile, and tells us the ones you need.When I point out the top skills LinkedIn says a candidate needs, I ask a very simple question Do you do these things? 99.9% of the time, the answer is a resounding, YesThis is low-hanging fruit, so act in your own best interest and grab itLinkedIn is literally telling you these are the skills the algorithm wants to see, and these are the skills the decision maker wants to see. There is no better guide to keywording than this. You dont have to guess. You dont have to wonder. And you dont have to fall victim to a resume and LinkedIn profile that talks so much about how much of a multi-faceted self-starter you are (because those are NEVER the keywords LinkedIn is telling you it wants)Skip The Internet Black HoleBy avoiding the angeschlossen resume submission Twilight Zone, and working with real people, I had direct contact with 26 recruiters and went on 17 in-person interviews. You can rack up the numbers by sitting at your computer 7 nights a week applying and submitting. Its bedrngnis the number of opportunities thats important. Rather, its the number of connections you make with real human beings. The strategy that works is to actually pursue fewer opportunities, but make more relevant co nnections for each opportunity.Make it your habit to identify a relevant human being for every role you apply for. If you really want to go deeper, identify 3, 5, or 8 relevant human beings theyre all on LinkedIn. Ive seen really determined candidates identify as many as 25. Send each of them a short message it can be the same message. Its virtually guaranteed that your responses will come.Think it may be unprofessional to reach out to multiple people? Theyre unlikely to be getting together, conferring about their emails, saying they cant believe you wrote to all of them at once no one has time for such conversations. Do not overly concern yourself with what people will think. If the recipient has a response, theyll respond. If they dont have anything to say, they wont. But when you make this practice a regular component of your job search team, someone will respondFacts Tell. Stories Sell.One thing that was great were the interview prep sessions. I used stories, really figured ou t what they were looking for, and how it related to what I had done. The answer is likely because they told a story you could relate to your life. Sure, they also talked about some of their expertise, whatever book they wrote, or program they represented. However, an effective, engaging speaker captures your attention by reeling you in with story, sprinkling in some facts / objective information, then closing with more story.You need to conduct your interviews the same way.For example, the interviewer could ask, What kind of a person would your coworkers say you are? Pretend in your mind that the question wasnt, what would they say, but rather, what did they say. This moves your answer from the hypothetical, where the story didnt really happen to the real world, where the story actually did occur.The key to a question like this is to first provi de the requested answer They would say Im conscientious and caring about what I do and the people I serve. Then immediately back that up with story. Story brings the adjectives, conscientious and caring from the level of self-congratulatory, to the level of illustration and action.The story can be, There was a time in my last social work position that I needed to deal with a family in which the father was facing termination of his parental rights. I didnt judge him or the family for what had gone on that brought them into the situation. I just devoted a bit of extra time to get to know them, demonstrate that I cared about them, and I really paid attention to the individual needs of each parent and the children. The parents sought individual therapy the family participated in group therapy and after a time the family was reunited.Every interview answer needs to be the answer + the story.
